This podcast highlights the prevalence of Orientalist tropes within the music industry and how these tropes harm the women in specific cultures. The podcast touches upon and inquires why Orientalism is so popular in music and the harm hypersexualized imagery of women from these regions does. Through this discussion, we analyze examples of Orientalist tropes in music and try to understand and explain how this appropriation of culture from what we perceive as the Orient is profitable for artists and why they continue to do it.
